Mangrove Mountain

Champion's Mountain Organics is looking to employ one or two people as trainees to learn about Organic and Biodynamic farming as practised at our Organic Farm in Mangrove Mountain.

The traineeships would normally be for one year and will be 'on site’ training delivered by Michael Champion under the guidance of Ourimbah TAFE. Depending on the prior experience of the trainee, the resulting qualification would be either Certificate II or Certificate III in Production Horticulture (Organics).

This is a unique opportunity for a young, fit person to learn all the basics of organic market gardening/farming. The right person(s) will have: some background in growing (preferably vegetables); a keen desire to learn about organic and biodynamic farming; and a desire to participate in all levels of farm activity relevant to our business. This will entail physical outdoor work, detailed picking and washing to a high standard (restaurant quality) and participation in farmer’s market selling.

CHAMPION'S MOUNTAIN ORGANICS is long established Organic Farm at Mangrove Mountain on the Central Coast. The farm has been certified organic since 1990 and Michael Champion is considered a senior member of the organic farming fraternity. We work closely with four other organic farms and market our/their produce in a loose co-operative system. There would be opportunities to see how these other farms operate. We serve a number of organic co-ops and several leading shops in Sydney. Our produce is always in demand with no shortage of new customers.

We attend two Farmers Markets each Saturday and also serve several leading (hatted) restaurants with selected lines.

The right person will have an excellent work ethic, a keenness to learn and the ability to fit in with the style and methodology that we have developed over many years, which has created the farm to be one of the most successful Organic Farms on the Central Coast.

Applicants will need their own transport and be able to work flexible hours when needed.

Young people who are keen to go into farming as a profession will be preferred but the ‘right’ person(s) could be of any age if they can work hard.
